The Perfect Pair, August Wedding Dress and Hair Accessories

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to design and sew a wedding dress to go with the wedding hair accessories I already make. Last year instead of making New Year's resolutions I made a sewing bucket list. On my list was a wedding dress. The past few months I tried to convince brides to let me make their dress.
Understandably, it was a hard sell. I had never actually made a wedding gown! I decided to design one anyway. I wanted the dress to fit someone so I could get some nice photos for my portfolio. Then I had an idea! Why not make the wedding gown to fit me? Since my husband and I had our anniversary coming up I thought it would be a fun way to celebrate four years of marriage.
I knew I wanted to make a wedding gown with a flutter sleeve. So many modest gowns try to have the smallest sleeve possible and cover up only the bare minimum. I wanted to create a dress that celebrated the sleeve!  I also wanted to create a ball gown because I'm a sucker for them.
Once I found the sequin fabric for the top I knew I needed to incorporate it into the skirt. I ended up hand sewing the different pieces onto the tulle skirt and it was just right. I love how the top flows into the skirt.
The day of the photo shoot I realized that if I was going to do a bridal shoot I should go all out. I quickly ran to the store and made the veil to match. The flowers came from In Bloom Floral Studio. Andrea was such a pleasure to work with and made a gorgeous bouquet and boutonnière.  The photos were done by Amanda Wood Photography.
I'm hoping I'll be able to do more wedding dresses in the future to pair with wedding hair accessories!
